WoW Forever Legacy System Guide

Legacy is WoW Forever’s account-wide horizontal progression system. Earn up to 65 Legacy Points from challenges, then spend up to 16 points independently on each character across the Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness trees.

Legacy at a glance

Legacy unlocks when you earn your first Legacy Point. For most players that will be at level 25, but it can also unlock by reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill or by exploring the entire world map. Open it from the shield icon or with the default Y hotkey.

At launch there are 65 Legacy Challenges. Each completed challenge awards one Legacy Point. Points are Battle.net account-wide for non-Hardcore characters. Every character can spend the points independently, with a launch spending cap of 16 points per character. You can keep earning beyond 16 because total points also advance the Legacy Reward Track.

A single character can earn as many as 29 launch points without creating an alt, so Legacy does not require an alt army.

Professions Legacy Tree

Working Overtime increases the chance to gain skill points in tradeskills, including class-specific skills such as Lockpicking. Bountiful Harvest can provide additional Scarce resources from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning.

Bartering reduces vendor purchase prices. Performance Bonus can award additional Merchant’s Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics. Master Chef can create extra cooking results, while Luremaster can provide extra fish.

Dedicated Study is a daily cooldown that helps increase tradeskills more quickly. If your professions have already reached 300, it can instead provide Elemental Essences.

Recommended progression priorities

FIRST CHARACTER / LEVELLING — Prioritise Adventure perks that save time throughout the 1–60 journey. Well Rested, Talented and Frequent Flier are the key perks to examine first, with Thrill of Adventure useful for open-world sustain.

ALT LEVELLING — Well Rested and Talented become especially attractive because Legacy is already unlocked account-wide. Frequent Flier adds permanent travel convenience while the character levels.

PROFESSION / GOLD CHARACTER — Focus on Working Overtime and Bountiful Harvest first, then consider Bartering, Performance Bonus and Dedicated Study according to whether the character gathers, crafts or handles commerce.

LEVEL-60 PVE — Resourcefulness becomes more relevant. Permanence, Gourmand, The Quick and the Dead, Reinforce and Reagent Economy all reduce preparation, recovery or upkeep friction.

PVP — For Great Honor is the obvious PvP-focused perk. High Alert may help in open-world encounters but Blizzard specifically excludes its stealth-detection benefit from Battlegrounds.

Risen Ancients will publish exact 16-point builds once launch/beta tuning confirms rank costs and final numerical values. We will not present temporary demo numbers as permanent launch values.

Why there is no fake ‘best 16-point build’ yet

The direction of each build is clear, but final point-by-point routes depend on confirmed rank costs, gates and launch tuning. We will publish exact 16/16 routes when those values are stable rather than optimise against numbers that may vanish before launch.

Route 1 · First character

Start with the three class milestones at levels 25, 45 and 60. Add points naturally from your two primary professions, exploration, dungeons and raids. Blizzard confirms one character can earn up to 29 launch points, so you can comfortably reach the 16-point spending cap without levelling alts.

Route 2 · Alt levelling

Use account-wide points already earned by your main to specialise the alt immediately. Prioritise the Adventure tree around Well Rested, Talented and Frequent Flier, then add sustain or convenience according to your playstyle. Exact ranks will be added once final costs are confirmed.

Route 3 · Professions & gold

Aim to unlock profession challenge points while levelling and build around Working Overtime, Bountiful Harvest and the profession/economy utility perks that suit the character. A dedicated crafting character and a gathering character do not need identical allocations.

Route 4 · Level-60 PvE

Once levelling bonuses stop being the priority, shift your attention toward Resourcefulness and persistent utility: buff duration, reagent savings, wipe recovery and reduced durability loss. Final 16/16 allocation remains pending launch tuning.

Route 5 · PvP

PvP itself supplies up to 12 Legacy Points. For Great Honor is the directly PvP-focused Legacy perk; other choices should depend on whether the character also needs levelling, profession or open-world utility. High Alert explicitly does not apply in Battlegrounds.

Risen Ancients Rogue route · pre-launch recommendation

For a fresh Rogue, Adventure is our starting priority. Well Rested speeds the overall levelling journey, Talented can bring talent access forward, and Frequent Flier reduces travel friction. Working Overtime is also unusually relevant because Blizzard specifically confirms that it can affect class-specific tradeskills such as Lockpicking. At level 60, Resourcefulness perks such as Reagent Economy, Permanence and The Quick and the Dead become more attractive depending on PvE/PvP focus.

This is a priority route, not a final 16-point allocation. We will convert it into an exact point-by-point Rogue build when the final tree layout, rank costs and launch tuning are confirmed.

Legacy Rewards

Every Legacy Point earned also contributes to the account-wide Legacy Reward Track. Spending a point is not required for it to count toward the track.

Four launch rewards have been announced: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, Spectral Bear Cub pet, Spectral Bear Tabard and Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Blizzard has said additional cosmetics and toys will be added with future content updates.

The official September 23 Legacy article names the rewards but does not publish their point thresholds, so this guide will add those thresholds only when they are confirmed.

Hardcore and future updates

Hardcore will not be available at WoW Forever launch. When it arrives, non-Hardcore Legacy Challenges will not carry into Hardcore. Challenges earned in Hardcore will also grant that challenge to the other rulesets.

PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore. Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-specific Legacy Challenges for Hardcore’s launch.

Legacy is designed to expand. Blizzard plans additional challenges with new content releases, more perks in the existing trees, possible new trees, higher spending opportunities and an expanded reward track.

Guide status

Last major information update: 23 September 2026. Core system details, the 65 launch challenges, three Legacy trees, 16-point per-character spending cap and four announced launch rewards are confirmed by Blizzard.

Exact perk rank values, tree gates, respec details and reward-point thresholds should be treated as subject to change until Blizzard confirms the final launch implementation. Risen Ancients will keep those details separate from confirmed information during beta.
