BUILD FROM THE INSIDE OUT

01

POWER

The battery recharges while moving and drains while stopped. Energy management governs every expedition.

02

STORAGE

Create enough organised capacity that useful expedition loot does not become a sorting disaster.

03

PRODUCTION

Use machinery and crafting to convert scavenged resources into tools, weapons, armour and further infrastructure.

04

WAGONS

Expand as your needs grow. EverRail supports attaching large numbers of wagons for storage, production and logistics.

CORE PRINCIPLE

FUNCTION BEFORE SIZE

A longer train is not automatically a better train. Add capacity because it solves a problem: storage, production, organisation or future expansion. Keep the systems you rely on easy to reach.

QUICK REFERENCE

KEEP THIS IN MIND

✓ The train must keep moving to recharge its battery
✓ Scout before committing to a stop
✓ Bring resources home with a purpose
✓ Rescue passengers whenever the risk makes sense
✓ Improve capability before chasing sheer size

DETAILED GUIDE

BUILDING A TRAIN THAT WORKS

The train is simultaneously your base, shelter, power system and logistics platform. The game supports hundreds of attached wagons, but the useful question is not how large you can make it. It is whether every new wagon makes survival easier.

BATTERY & MOVEMENT

Battery recharges while the train moves and drains while stationary. Zero battery ends the journey, so every base-building session and expedition consumes a finite stop window.

WAGONS & FAST TRAVEL

Use wagons to separate functions such as storage, crafting and specialist equipment. Current fast travel lets you rename wagons, mark favourites and use eligible level-placed buildings as destinations.

STORAGE

Storage buildings have slot counts matched to their size, so larger storage can be as efficient or more efficient than small units. Keep frequently used crafting materials close to the machinery consuming them.

BUILDING MODULES

Patch 0.3.2 fixed modules so they affect crafting buildings directly beside them, not buildings above or below. Plan module adjacency horizontally rather than assuming vertical stacking will provide the effect.

FOOD & TRAIN SYSTEMS

The train can consume any food item, not only rations. Train upgrade items use the train toolbelt as the authoritative upgrade location, including durability upgrades.

SUPERVISION

The buildable Supervisor Desk provides a free camera for inspecting the train. It becomes particularly useful once the base is large enough that walking the entire thing becomes a small expedition of its own.

EXPANSION PASS II

DRIVING, POWER & TRAIN SAFETY

TRAIN HORN WARNINGS

The horn can automatically warn the crew as battery energy becomes low while the train is stationary, supplementing the escalating countdown warnings.

SPEED & DAMAGE

High speed charges the battery quickly, but excessive speed can damage the train and makes stopping for facilities or hazards harder. Use speed as a resource rather than leaving the throttle buried.

AEGIS & REPAIRS

The Aegis shield can protect the train from track hazards but consumes substantial energy. Repair damage during safe stops rather than allowing small problems to accumulate.

BUILDING QUALITY OF LIFE

Wall-snapping buildings can rotate, stairs rotate in 180-degree steps, and writable signs support up to 240 characters. Use signs and named wagons to make a large train navigable.

LARGE TRAIN RULE

Group related systems together, name the wagon, favourite important destinations and leave clear movement space. A vast base is less impressive when reaching the cockpit requires a guided tour.
