GETTING STARTED

Your first hours on Inara are about learning one uncomfortable truth: the train is not scenery. It is your home, factory and life support.

EARLY ACCESS • VERIFIED FOR 0.3.2 • 24 SEPTEMBER 2026
THE GOLDEN RULE

KEEP THE TRAIN MOVING

The train charges while it moves. When you stop, that stored energy becomes a survival clock. Plan what you need before leaving the train and avoid wasting a stop wandering without a purpose.

YOUR FIRST HOURS

FOUR THINGS TO LEARN FIRST

01

SURVIVE

Watch hunger, health and train energy. Staying alive is more valuable than squeezing one more room out of an expedition.

02

SCAVENGE

Facilities across Inara contain the resources your mobile base needs. Go out with a purpose and return before the stop becomes expensive.

03

BUILD

Use gathered materials to craft, improve equipment and develop the train from the inside out.

04

EXPAND

Rescue passengers and develop your train. Every survivor also matters because death passes control to another passenger while any remain.

YOUR MOBILE BASE

UNDERSTAND THE TRAIN

Treat the train as the centre of every decision. It carries your people and provides the platform for crafting, storage and expansion. Energy is the immediate constraint: moving replenishes it; standing still consumes it.

ENERGYKeep moving to recharge.
RATIONSPassengers and your active character need food.
PASSENGERSSurvivors keep the journey alive after death.
CRAFTING & STORAGETurn expedition loot into continued survival.
FIRST EXPEDITION

LEAVE WITH A PLAN

SCOUT → STOP → LOOT → RETURN → MOVE

Use the glider to scout and identify useful destinations. On foot, prioritise what you came for rather than stripping every corner of a facility. Your train's remaining energy is the timer you should actually care about.

Patch 0.3.2 adds mouse steering options for the glider, including Keyboard + Mouse and Mouse Only.

EARLY PRIORITIES

WHAT MATTERS MOST

HIGH PRIORITY

STAY OPERATIONAL

Train energy, rations, health and enough equipment to return safely.

IMPORTANT

BUILD CAPACITY

Useful crafting, sensible storage and equipment improvements that make the next expedition easier.

THEN EXPAND

PUSH FARTHER

Rescue more passengers, explore more facilities and grow the train once the basics are under control.

DEATH & PASSENGERS

EVERY PASSENGER IS ANOTHER LIFE

Death does not automatically end the run. Another passenger takes your place while survivors remain aboard the train. Rescue trapped passengers in facilities to strengthen the population and give the journey more chances to continue.
