PROGRESSION
Build momentum without outrunning your supplies. EverRail progression is about making each expedition improve the train, your equipment and your margin for survival.
A PRACTICAL PROGRESSION LOOP
STABILISE
Learn energy management, keep food available and make reliable returns before chasing expansion.
IMPROVE
Turn expedition resources into better tools, equipment, crafting capacity and train systems.
EXPAND
Add wagons and logistics when the existing train can support the extra space and production.
PUSH FARTHER
Use better preparation and scouting to reach more valuable facilities and rescue more passengers.
PROGRESSION IS A LOOP
Scout, stop with a purpose, bring resources home, improve the train, then travel farther. Because Inara is procedurally generated, progress is better measured by capability than by memorising one fixed route.
KEEP THIS IN MIND
HOW PROGRESSION ACTUALLY WORKS
EverRail does not give you one fixed route to memorise. Inara is procedurally generated, so progression is about increasing what your crew and train can reliably handle: longer stops, stronger facilities, better equipment, more production and a larger passenger safety net.
1. SECURE THE CORE LOOP
Learn the battery rule first. Moving recharges the train; stopping drains it. Make short, deliberate expeditions, return with useful materials and move again before power becomes critical.
2. BUILD CAPABILITY
Use recovered resources and technology to improve weapons, armour, tools, gliders and machinery. Crafting and building are the bridge between one expedition and the next.
3. EXPAND THE TRAIN
Add wagons when they solve a real problem: storage, production, logistics or passenger support. Wagons can be renamed and favourited in the fast-travel interface, which becomes increasingly useful as the train grows.
4. PUSH INTO HARDER CONTENT
Later facilities provide more opportunities, but rarity is not guaranteed to rise simply because you are late-game. Patch 0.3.0 normalised Rare, Epic and Legendary loot chances across progression.
Survival reliability → crafting capacity → equipment → train organisation → expansion. Do not build a kilometre-long railway palace while everyone is starving. Humans do love square footage.
DIFFICULTY, LOOT & LONG-TERM PLANNING
STARTING TRAIN
New games start with at least four wagons so the train includes the glider catcher. Treat those starting wagons as the foundation for specialised areas rather than immediately replacing everything.
LOOT RARITY
Rare, Epic and Legendary drop chances were normalised in 0.3.0. Late-game containers no longer become dramatically more generous simply because more loot has unlocked, so progression should target useful capability rather than farming an assumed rarity curve.
CUSTOM PROGRESSION
Custom difficulty can alter enemy damage, health and magazine size, Iso yield, passenger count, cold, inventory-on-death behaviour and derailment. A guide route that feels comfortable on one world can therefore be punishing on another.
DERAILMENT
Since 0.3.1, derailment causes more damage and gives less grace time on every difficulty. Progression includes learning to drive safely, not merely accumulating more equipment.
