PASSENGERS & SURVIVAL
Every passenger is another chance to continue. Rescue survivors, keep the train supplied and remember that losing people steadily moves the whole journey closer to its end.
YOUR POPULATION IS YOUR LIFE COUNTER
RESCUE
Survivors are trapped in abandoned facilities across Inara. Bringing them aboard strengthens your society.
FEED
Passengers consume food, so population growth also creates a supply responsibility.
RESPAWN
When you die, another passenger takes your place while survivors remain aboard the train.
PROTECT
Avoid unnecessary deaths. More passengers provide resilience, but they are not an excuse to treat expeditions as disposable.
EVERY PASSENGER MATTERS
The game's survival structure makes population part of progression. Custom difficulty also includes settings such as Passenger Count and Inventory on Death, so the exact pressure can vary by world settings.
KEEP THIS IN MIND
PASSENGERS, FOOD & DEATH
Passengers are not decorative NPCs. They are the continuation mechanic behind the entire run. When the active character dies, another passenger takes over; when nobody remains, there is nobody left to inherit your increasingly questionable decisions.
RESCUE SURVIVORS
Passengers are found trapped in abandoned facilities across Inara. Rescuing them grows the society aboard the train and increases the number of deaths the run can survive.
DEATH & SUCCESSION
When your character dies, another passenger steps forward. The journey continues while survivors remain. Death therefore costs population even when it does not immediately end the save.
HUNGER
Hunger remains a survival system, but patch 0.3.2 slowed hunger build-up to roughly one third of its previous rate across all difficulties.
FOOD SUPPLY
The train can consume any food item rather than only dedicated rations. Keep a buffer instead of waiting until hunger becomes the problem that interrupts everything else.
AUTO FEEDER
Auto Feeder I is craftable in the Lab. While fitted in an active toolbelt it automatically reduces hunger at the configured threshold, consuming durability when it feeds.
CUSTOM DIFFICULTY
World settings include Passenger Count, Inventory on Death, Cold Build-Up Rate, enemy health/damage settings and Iso yield. The severity of survival therefore depends partly on the rules selected for that save.
Treat passengers as strategic reserves, not spare bodies. Rescue opportunities are valuable because every additional survivor increases the run's resilience.
SURVIVAL SETTINGS & POPULATION MANAGEMENT
PASSENGER COUNT
Passenger Count in Custom Difficulty also determines the train's starting maximum passenger capacity. This changes both the initial safety margin and the scale of the population system.
AUTO FEEDER I
Crafted in the Lab, Auto Feeder I activates from an active toolbelt when hunger reaches 75. It consumes one durability per feed, and compatible food carries Auto-Feed traits.
HUNGER & COLD
Current hunger build-up is roughly three times slower than before 0.3.2. Custom settings also expose Cold Build-Up Rate, allowing survival pressure to vary substantially between worlds.
RATION DISTRIBUTION
Food distribution and ration consumption have been repeatedly balanced during Early Access. Any food item can now feed the train, so dedicated rations are not the only valid supply.
INVENTORY ON DEATH
Inventory on Death is exposed in Custom Difficulty. Check the world's setting before taking expensive equipment into a dangerous facility; death consequences are not identical on every save.
MULTIPLAYER IDENTITY
Player inventory is tied to account ID rather than join order in 0.3.2. Returning players should recover the inventory and toolbelt they previously left with.
