WEAPONS & COMBAT

Combat protects the expedition, but survival is the objective. Prepare for hostile facilities, preserve health and do not turn every encounter into a heroic last stand.

COMBAT FUNDAMENTALS

01

PREPARE

Bring suitable weapons, armour and enough survival resources for the facility you intend to enter.

02

READ THREATS

Facilities can contain hostile robots and other dangers. Identify what is attacking before committing.

03

USE FEEDBACK

Patch 0.3.2 marks critical hits and hits on shields, giving clearer feedback about effective attacks.

04

KNOW WHEN TO LEAVE

Loot is replaceable. Passengers are your remaining lives, and the train battery is still draining outside.

CORE PRINCIPLE

SURVIVAL BEATS STYLE

EverRail is still in Early Access, so weapon balance can change. This guide deliberately avoids declaring a permanent 'best weapon' until current patch data supports it.

QUICK REFERENCE

KEEP THIS IN MIND

✓ The train must keep moving to recharge its battery
✓ Scout before committing to a stop
✓ Bring resources home with a purpose
✓ Rescue passengers whenever the risk makes sense
✓ Improve capability before chasing sheer size
✓ Re-check advice after major Early Access updates
DETAILED GUIDE

COMBAT & EQUIPMENT

Combat exists to get you into a facility and back out again. Current Early Access balance is still moving, so this guide focuses on mechanics and preparation rather than pretending one gun will remain king until the heat death of the universe.

WEAPONS & ARMOUR

Weapons and armour are part of the crafting and loot progression. Prepare equipment before entering dangerous locations rather than relying on whatever happens to be found inside.

SHIELDS

Enemy shields regenerate more slowly after the 0.3.0 combat rebalance, with regeneration scaling by shield size. Shielded spider drones can be damaged by gunfire.

EMP TOOLS

EMP weapons were adjusted to remain useful later in progression. Four EMP tools now occupy distinct effect levels rather than pistol and rifle variants producing identical effects.

READ DAMAGE FEEDBACK

Critical hits and hits against shields are explicitly marked in 0.3.2. Shotgun pellets display a combined damage number, making the result of a shot easier to judge.

ROBOT VARIETY

Higher-tier spider drones use real firing bursts, while suicide spiders can appear in all facility types. Assume a familiar facility can still produce an unpleasant surprise.

RETREAT IS A TOOL

Health, equipment, passengers and battery time all matter more than clearing every enemy. Break contact when the cost of continuing exceeds the value of the objective.

BEST WEAPON?

We are not publishing a fixed best-in-slot list yet. Loot rarity and combat balance have already changed during Early Access, so specific rankings will be added only when they can be maintained against current patch data.

EXPANSION PASS II

ENEMIES, ACCURACY & DIFFICULTY

ACCURACY CHANGES

Early patches reduced bullet spread for standard SMGs, pistols and rifles to improve consistency. Heavy variants and EMP pistols were excluded from those specific changes; shotguns were unchanged.

ENEMY SETTINGS

Custom difficulty includes robot damage multiplier, enemy health, magazine size and enemy amount per facility. Account for these when comparing combat advice between saves.

TURRETS & EMP

EMP guidance distinguishes robots and turrets. EMP equipment was rebalanced so the four EMP tools occupy distinct effect levels instead of pistol and rifle variants behaving identically.

DAMAGE INFORMATION

Critical hits and shield hits are labelled, and shotgun pellet damage is combined into one number. Use the feedback to identify whether you are damaging health, breaking shields or landing efficient hits.

COMBAT DECISION

The best fight is the one that achieves the expedition objective without consuming more health, ammunition and battery time than the reward is worth.
